About Us
Hotel Aurora is located two blocks from Central Park, in the heart of La Antigua, Guatemala. This historical city, considered the most beautiful city in the entire Mayan world, was designated a Heritage of Humanity cultural site in 1965 by UNESCO. Antigua was also named the top city for travel by the Wanderlust Travel Awards in 2009.
For more than 85 years, travelers have sought refuge in this warm, cozy, secure hotel. Guests are greeted and continually provided first-class service by a professional staff, comprised of friendly, knowledgeable, multi-lingual, long-term employees.
Hotel Aurora is the oldest guesthouse in the city. It was built in 1926 by Mariano Castañeda, a local businessman. Mariano was a visionary, and even in the middle of the Depression era, he willingly sold his successful store and opened the first hotel in Antigua. Five generations later, Hotel Aurora remains open and symbolizes the strength of one man’s dream.
"I stayed at the Hotel Aurora for 17 nights in May, 2012 and had a wonderful stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was always immaculately clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was great too--a wide array of tropical fruits with granola, breads, and tea. I loved the flowers and fountain in the inner courtyard as well--it was so relaxing to fall asleep every night listening to the gentle sounds of water bubbling in the fountain. The hotel is in a great location, just two blocks from the Central park in Antigua, near a number of shops and restaurants. All in all, highly recommended. I had such a great time!"
